About Me
Posted on May 4th, 2010
That’s me, there, on the right. Mike Kalmbach. Pleased to make your acquaintance.
I currently live in Rochester, Minnesota with my wife Brenda, our son Alex, and our two cats. When I’m not working, writing, editing, or volunteering, I love to work outside: landscaping our yard, enjoying time with our neighbors, or simply appreciating the sun on my face. I can often be found tinkering with something or another, and probably identify the most with Wilson, the character from Home Improvement.
Some phrases that describe me:
- Father
- Software engineer
- Writer/editor
- Naturalist
- Handyman
- Inventor
- Martial artist
- Mentor
- Student
I’ve also earned the following degrees:
- Associate in Science and Arts – Muskegon Community College (2001)
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (Minor in Mathematics) – Michigan Technological University (2004)
- Master of Science in Software Engineering – University of Minnesota (2010)
Besides my day job of being a software engineer, I also moonlight as a freelance writer and editor. I’m currently revising a new novel with the working title The Caldarian Conflict. I’m currently bringing it through revisions, and expect to make it available to the public sometime this summer.
Most of my editing jobs are handled through WritAnon. There’s also a vibrant writers community there, so please feel free to stop by and join if you’re so inclined.
As of August 2010, I also lead the Rochester MN Writing Group. You can find more details at the linked web page.
